| Dane Dacus Tops O’Reilly MSRA Action at Poinsett County Raceway
The O’Reilly MSRA Super Late Model Series held its second event of the 2008 season on Saturday night at Poinsett County Speedway in Harrisburg, Arkansas in front of a packed grandstand.
Twenty-Eight Super Late Model representing five states were on hand for the $2,000 to win event. After accumulating the most passing points in his heat race, Birch Tree, Missouri’s, Justin Asplin earned the JFR Graphics Pole Position for the feature event with Lakeland, Tennessee’s Dane Dacus flanked to his outside.
At the drop of the green flag on the feature event, Dane Dacus bolted to the lead with Asplin, Mike Bowers, Jeff Floyd, and Johnny Waters in tow. Dacus would stretch his lead early in the race before the caution flag flew on lap 12 for a multi-car pileup.
At the time of the caution Dacus, Bowers, and Floyd made up the top five, and on the ensuing restart, Dacus once again jumped to a comfortable lead as he continued to work the low side with Bowers and Floyd hosting an intense battle for the second position.
Lap 17, would once again see the caution flag wave, and the field bunched up once again. As the green flag waved once again, Floyd made a move for the lead against Dacus as the duo battled briefly for the top spot before Dacus once again motored away from the field.
As Dacus checked out on the field, the man on the move was 18th starting Kyle Beard, who was utilizing the high side of the track to charge through the pack. He cracked the top five with a few laps remaining in the feature as Bowers moved into the second position.
The remaining laps would go caution free as Dane Dacus went on to pick up the feature victory which was his second career O’Reilly MSRA win. Rounding out the top five were Mike Bowers, Jeff Floyd, Kyle Beard (started 18th), and Joey Mack.
Heat races were won by Justin Asplin, Dane Dacus, Mike Bowers, and Johnny Waters with Jamie Dacus and Jordan Jones topping the twin b-mains.
The Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger award went to Kyle Beard for advancing 14 positions in the feature (18th to 4th). 2008 O’Reilly MSRA Rookie of the Year Candidate, Ross Camponovo from Clarksdale, Mississippi, received the Weld Racing Wheels Hard Luck Award for the evening after battling mechanical woes all night long. Dane Dacus received the COMP Cams Top Performer Award.
The next event for the O’Reilly MSRA Super Late Models will be a double header event at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Mississippi on May 9th-10th.
