Carolina Clash Set to Celebrate Independence Day Weekend at FMS
The Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series will be on action over the Fourth of July Holiday with a speical $5,000 to win main event at Fayetteville Motor Speedway Saturday night July 5th. This will be the second of four appearances for the 'blue collar tour' at FMS in 2008. Heading the list of drivers that willbe in action will be current series points leader Dennis 'Rambo' Franklin. Franklin captured his first of three victories on the season on April 12th at FMS. His early move on race leader Ricky Weeks payed off to the tune of $4,000. Franklin's points lead took a big hit last weekend though, as a 24th place finish at Clary's Speedway, combined with Weeks' third place run moved the four time and defending series champion within striking distance of the popular driver know as 'Rambo'. Anytime the 'Clash' series rolls into FMS Jeff Smith is always one to watch. Still looking for his first checkered flag of the season, Smith will be a strong contender as he looks to make up some ground on the lead duo in the point standings. A pair of PBM Performance Parts Rookie of the Year contenders; Scott Neighbors and Craig Shuffield, called Fayetteville Motor Speedway home. Both young drivers have had very solid seasons and will be looking for their first career victory with the series on Saturday night. The two along with Springfield, NC's Anthony Sanders are locked into a 'dog fight' for the PBM Rookie of the Year award. The always tough Fayetteville Motor Speedway regulars will be looking to take out the 'Carolina Bad Boys'. Among the drivers expected to be on hand are; David Taylor, Ricky Boahn, Roger Lucas, Scott Autry, Chris Marshall, Derrick Francis, Timmy Blackwell, Chris Blackwell, Craig Miller, Shawn Beasley, Dean Bowen, along with several other drivers. With only two regular season points events left before the series heads into it's 'Countdown to the Cup Championship Series' their are still nine drivers eligable for the $12,500 series championship. Those drivers include; Dennis Franklin, Ricky Weeks, Jeff Smith, Ed Gibbons, Doug Sanders, Scott Neighbors, Anthony Sanders and Deaon Long. This will be the 30th career Carolina Clash event held at Fayetteville Motor Speeddway. Jeff Smith and Ray Tucker are tied with five wins a piece at the 4/10 mile oval. All the action gets under way Saturday night when the gates open at 4:00 PM. Racing will start at 8:00 PM.
