Fremont Speedway releases 2008 schedule

Something old, something new...Fremont Speedway to embark on 57th racing season.

By Brian Liskai

What do you get when you combine a historic race track with new promoters? At Fremont Speedway, you get a 2008 schedule that incorporates new, exciting events and brings back some of the tradition the loyal race fans have come to enjoy.

"When Andy (James) and myself decided we wanted to promote races at Fremont Speedway, we knew we had a lot of work to do, but it would be easy because of the tradition and relationships Jim Ford and his family built and nurtured," said Rich Farmer, co-promoter at "The Track That Action Built."

"We knew there were events the race fans and drivers really liked and those they wanted to be back on the schedule," continued Farmer. "There's something for every fan on our schedule from special 410 sprint races to the fair race showcasing the trucks to the late models coming back and the 305
sprint invitational."

The 57th season of racing features three visits by the traveling O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car group, and the return of racing during the Sandusky County Fair. Also making their way back onto the schedule are the NRA 360 vs. 305 Sprints Challenge and the Sunoco American Late Model Series.

The 2008 season of racing gets underway on Pepsi Night, Saturday, April 19, featuring the weekly divisions of the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints, Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks.

Fort Ball Pizza Palace Night - April 26 - features the fire-breathing, mud-slinging 410 sprints, the side-by-side racing of the 305 sprints and the door-banging action of the dirt trucks.

Baumann Auto Group Night kicks off a busy May at "The Track That Action Built," with all three divisions entertaining fans on May 3. Burns Iron and Metal Night follows on May 10, with Root's Poultry Night on May 17.

Kear's Speed Shop Night on May 24 will feature the first appearance of the season of the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions paying the winner of the 410 sprint feature $5,000! The dirt trucks and 305 sprints are also in action that night.

Hillside Billiards and Underground Utilities Inc. will pay tribute to those to pay the bills on Fan Appreciation Night on May 31 with the 305 sprints, dirt trucks and ARP Late Models in action.

McDonald's Night kicks off June's racing action with the 410 sprints, 305 sprints and dirt trucks in action on June 7. All three divisions are in action June 14 on Crown Battery Night, with Burger King Night following on June 21.

Fremont Speedway will play host to night #5 of the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions' Ohio Sprint Speedweek on Thursday, June 26 (the 305 sprints are also on the racing card). The week starts with racing Sunday, June 22 at Attica Raceway Park and features seven straight nights of racing across the Buckeye State.

The action gets hotter than a firecracker in July at Fremont Speedway, as Coors Beer Night features the 410 sprints, dirt trucks and 305 sprints along with an exhibition of racing's past with the vintage race cars. Schiets Motors - Honda - Yamaha - Suzuki Night follows on July 12, with Beck Oil Night showcasing all three divisions on July 19. Custom Chrome Plating Night puts the wraps on the month on July 26.

Kistler Engines Night is Aug. 2, followed by Wilhelm Auto Parts Night on Aug. 9, featuring an open wheel extravaganza of 410 sprints and the NRA 360 sprints challenging the tough Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints.

The historical Sandusky County Fair will once again play host to the roar of race engines, as the Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks take center stage on Tuesday, Aug. 19 as Excuse's Lounge and BMS Engines sponsor the night of entertainment. The vintage cars will also on display.

Not to be outdone, the 305 sprints get the attention on Aug. 31 as All Pro Cylinder Heads presents the 305 Sprint Invitational. The dirt trucks and ARP Late Models will also be in action along with the school bus races.

The O'Reilly All Stars make their final appearance of 2008 at Fremont Speedway on Ohio CAT Night, Sept. 6. The 50-lap feature event will pay $5,000 to win. The dirt trucks and 305 sprints are also on the racing card.

Ludwig Propane Night will bring in the roar of the ALMS super late models on Sept. 13, with the 305 sprints and trucks in action as well.

The season wraps up Saturday, Sept. 20, with Abdoo Wrecking Season Championship Night for all three divisions.
