Fremont Speedway News

The Sunoco American Late Model Series 2008 championship will be decided at Fremont Speedway, Saturday, Sept. 13 when the wheel-hiking, ground-pounding super late models visit "The Track That Action Built."

Clark Lake, Michigan's Brian Ruhlman - the 2005 and 2007 ALMS champion - currently leads the UMP DIRTcar Racing-sanctioned tour point standings by just 18 points ahead of Jackson, Michigan's Rusty Schlenk. Schlenk beat Ruhlman for the 2006 ALMS title by just five points. Rusty Seaver is 107 points back in third. The rest of the top 10 includes Tyler Boggs, 4th; Jerry Bowersock, 5th; Ky Harper, 6th; Ryan Vanderveen, 7th; Dusty Moore, 8th; Mat Miller, 9th; and Casey Noonan, 10th.

The ALMS last visited Fremont Speedway in 2006 with Jeep Van Wormer and Schlenk taking the victories.

"We're very excited the ALMS title will be decided at Fremont. Brian Ruhlman and Rusty Schlenk have battled for the series title the past three years and are locked in a tight battle this year. It should be an entertaining night of racing," said Fremont Speedway Promoters Rich Farmer and Andy James. "We're expecting a very large field of top late models."

Ludwig Propane will sponsor the night's action which includes the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks. The coveted Fremont Speedway champions in the 305 sprints and trucks is very close as well, with Stuart Brubaker holding a slim 14 point advantage over Kevin Lee and Jim McGrath holding only a 1-point lead over Cory Ward in the trucks.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing underway at 7 p.m.
