STEVEN ATKINS WINS FRIENDSHIP SEASON FINALE
Friendship Motor Speedway under the ASA Sanction would make way for a spectacular season finale with a special Sunday afternoon running of events. The weather would be just right with sunshine early and comfortable temperature towards the end of events as we would have a special first time appearance by the Mini-Sprints who would put on one of the best races of the night. We would also feature all four of our regular divisions known as the Basic Finance Super Street, Coffee House Four Cylinders, Southeastern Cars & Parts U-Car division, and our regular GM Direct Automotive Crate Late Models racing for a special enhanced purse while they take the car tops off for a fan favorite "Topless" show.
In the GM Direct Automotive Crate Late Model event, twenty-six cars rolled into the four-tenth mile Friendship Motor Speedway for what would be a special season finale for what has been an outstanding year in this premier division. Many obstacles would needed to be overcome to get the win in this event as there would be several different lead changes before Steven Atkins would take the lead and hold on to find victory as he would roll into the Neighbors Stores/100.9 WIFM Victory Lane for his first ever win at the track in only his second start. Joe Bennett would have a very impressive run while being patient in second. Kenny Vanderveer would have a season best third place run. Championship runner-up Tony Hicks would have problems early but would rally back to a fourth place finish. Daniel Baggerly would be the man to round out the top five.
In the Basic Finance Super Street event, Daniel Moss and Kenny Gwyn would put on one heack of a show up front with the top spot being traded back and fourth. Daniel Moss would come out ahead on this deal as he would bring home the victory. Kenny Gwyn would start first and finish just short of that with second. Jeff Parsons would finish third while C.J. Lyons would return to finish fourth. David Capps would be your fifth place finisher.
In the Coffee House Four Cylinder event, Justin Hudspeth would have a great run as he would kick things off from up front after a win in his heat event. 2008 Points Champion Billy Robbins would start along side on the front row. Justin Hudspeth would get out to and early lead and never look back as he would set sail to find victory. Robbie Brown would give it all he had as he would do battle with Robbins early and come out on top of that deal and would come home with a second place finish. Billy Robbins would settle for third while Steve Faw would round out the top four.
In the Special Mini-Sprint Car event, Terry Peters would lead early an would look like the man to beat until he would have troubles in turn one as a wheel would come off his car. Justin Lineman would pick up the lead and cruise to the win for his first win with the debut of the Mini-Sprints. Barry Belcher would have a strong run in second while Willie Hicks, Coby Adams, and Daniel Isbell would finish third, fourth, and fifth.
In the Southeastern Cars & Parts U-Car feature, Jake Anen would have a very impressive run after starting fourth in the event. Jake would score his second win this year as he takes home the season finale trophy. Brett Myers would give it all he had in the closing laps but would come up just a little short to bring it home a strong second. Barry Wilson would fall from the pole positon to finish yet another third place run. Britton Settle would finish fourth with Kenny Sapp rounding out the top five.
