Battle of Blue Ridge

Excited to announce joint track promotion for the inaugural Pro Late Model race to be held on Thursday night July 3 at Friendship Speedway. Then to Wythe Raceway for a Saturday night shootout on July 5. With two of the finest tracks located only one hour apart, Hall and Brown thought this would be an excellent opportunity for race fans to enjoy the "old style southern dirt track racin". What can be better than spending the 4th of July in the Blue Ridge mountains and getting to see two race tracks, two dirt races and one driver crowned Champion of the Battle of the Blue Ridge? "You ain't gotta drive far and you ain't gotta buy a lotta gas" remarked Brown. Hall commented "you ain't seen nothin' yet".

With both track paying $1,000.00 to win plus a big bonus of $500.00 to win both events, the pits should be packed with some driver having the opportunity to take home $2,500.00 in his backyard. A special championship cup trophy is being made to present to the driver that accumulates the most points. Most of the competitors will have a very short drive to compete in the Battle of the Blue Ridge. Another plus for the driver's, both are FASTRAK sanctioned races and competitors will receive points toward the $10,000.00 FASTRAK national points championship. Also both races will count towards the 15 events necessary to compete in the year end FASTRAK Grand Nationals with $50,000.00 going to the winner.

Wythe will have also have their Double Points Mid-Season Championship races for the Super Streets featuring full bodied Monte Carlos, Buick Regals, and Camaros along with Modified, Pro Mini, Hornets and Ucars. An enhanced purse with championship trophies will be awarded to the winners.

Friendship's support classes be in action. Super Streets, 4 cylinders and Ucar will be on the racing program.

Wythe's Clinton Cook, Radford holds the track record and is the current points leader in the Berglund Performance Pro Late Models, Matt Parks, Wytheville and David Watts of Buchanan all have feature wins in 2008. All three are young and have the same plan; win at Friendship on Thursday night and then win Saturday night at their home track in the Battle of the Blue Ridge. Justin White of Marion, Jackie Cook of Radford, David Wikle from Dublin, Randy Kinder of Radford, Ron Thomas of Rock Hill SC, Jason Lawrence of Pilot, Scott Agee of Radford, Phil Gann of Mayodan, NC, Daniel Baggerly of Rural Retreat and all of the rest of the Wythe drivers will be looking for the $2,500.00 and the Championship Battle of the Blue Ridge cup trophy. Can the Wythe Raceway driver's beat the Tarheel driver's from Friendship? You gotta be there to see how the Wythe drivers handle the 4/10 mile Friendship oval.

Noel Tucker is on a hot streak at Friendship and he knows Wythe, can he win both? Chase McCormick is a former Wythe Track Champion and knows how to win, can he win both? John Eller, Keith Holder, Tony Hicks, Mitchell Coble, Jason Walls and Ryan Atkins are all looking good.

Friendship pit gate will open on Thursday, July 3rd at 4 p.m. with the grandstand gate opening at 4 p.m. Hot laps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., to be followed by qualifying and then racing action.

Wythe pit gate will open on Saturday, July 5th at 4 pm with grandstand opening 5 pm. Hot laps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., to be followed by racing action and qualifying. Pits $22.00.
