Hilltop Speedway Ready For Action April 6, 2008
Millersburg Ohio- The hills will roar with the sound of high performance engines this weekend as Hilltop Speedway will kick off the 2008 dirt track racing season and begin their most exciting and action packed schedule of events to date. In only two years this almost forgotten dirt oval race track has fast become a favorite among fans and drivers alike, attracting both from a multi state region every week adding greatly to the thriving Holmes County tourist industry and local economy. Hilltop Speedway will feature their top three divisions every Friday night, with anticipation at a peak and adrenaline running high the on track action is always intense making the perfect night to unwind after a long week. Due to the large number of talented race car drivers in the area Hilltop Speedway will also open their doors on Saturday nights to allow a wider variety of competition the opportunity to race. The move toward a two day format will also help us complete our program at an earlier hour so race fans, especially those with children can be home at a decent hour. An earlier finish also benefits the teams who need to have their racing machines prepared for the next night of door to door dirt track racing.
The reason so many people enjoy the races at Hilltop Speedway is because of the unique layout and size of the track. At only 1/3 mile in total length the cars stay bunched together for close racing and the highly banked corners allow extremely high speeds. Track grooming is also a very important step to great racing as too much moisture can create a very rough surface while not enough will lead to dusty conditions, a challenge for teams to make the right adjustments to their race cars. Three different types of cars will compete on Friday nights which includes Pure Stocks, basically your everyday rear wheel drive street sedan that has been modified for safety and speed. A Modified is exactly that, stripped to bare essentials this car is the sports fastest growing division specially built for extreme competition and speed. They are easily identified because the large 700 horsepower engine is left exposed along with the open front wheels. Dirt Late Models are the premier division at Hilltop Speedway, hand built from the ground up they feature exotic suspensions to grip an often slippery racing surface, engines approaching 850 horsepower, and fourteen inch wide tires on all four corners to help the car stay “planted” to the race track. Because the action is so fast and close, the bodies are formed of lightweight aluminum and plastic to make replacement quick and easy should the car become involved in a high speed crash.
Our expanded schedule will include Sprint Cars, Limited Late Models, Mini Stocks, Mini Trucks, and after a thirty five year absence, Flat Track motorcycle racing will return to Hilltop Speedway in 2008. The drivers and teams in competition every week are among the best that can be found anywhere and is the reason why professional teams travel great distance to compete here. Along with the fantastic weekly program numerous special events are planned that is sure to bring the nations best dirt track racers to Millersburg Ohio. Many teams travel the country in tractor / trailer transporters that rival those found in NASCAR. Touring series scheduled to compete at Hilltop include the Lucas Oil Racing Series, The All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Tour, the Pennsylvania based MACS dirt car racing series, and the IRS racing series who will present “The Deadline 50” on Friday night, April 18. This race will feature the popular dirt late models and pay the winner $6,000 to win the 50 lap event. There is not a bad seat in the house and along with non stop racing excitement; Hilltop Speedway offers great concessions at an affordable price and a friendly atmosphere. If you have never been to a dirt track race come prepared to get loud and dirty, you will be amazed how far “grass roots” racing has come.
Hilltop Speedway is located three miles south of Millersburg Ohio on County Road 150. County Road 150 is located at the Ohio 83 / US 60 split or traveling north on 83, turn left just past the Clark city limits. Our race day phone number is 330 - 674 - 6747 and our website can be accessed at www.hilltopspeedway.net. We hope you will join us for the best in dirt track racing entertainment to be found. Thank you. |

| Nothing major has been done to Hilltop over the winter. New dirt has been added to the surface and the crew has been busy working that all into shape.
Concession trailers have been scrubbed and stocked with a few new menu items added including Troyers Trail Bologna and local cheese, and pulled pork sandwiches.
Inside the souvenir shack has a different look and more concrete sidewalks have been poured but thats about it thats noticeabale for now. When the weather straightens out Dutch Country Stone is going to build a "fan zone / victory circle" between the pits and general areas.
Everyone who worked at Hilltop the last two years is coming back for more so thats a really good thing. The best thing Hilltop has going is the racing, and we all know who to thank for that! Looking forward to seeing everyone April 18 and 19. Later |
