SECA Set To Sanction Crate Modified Competition In 2016

After a successful 2015 season of crate late model and crate sportsman racing, the South Eastern Crate Association is set to expand once again in 2016. Entering its 4th season of competition, SECA will welcome the crate modified class in 2016 and give the association its 3rd sanctioned division.

In the past few years, open wheel modified cars powered by 602 crate engines have been on the rise in the Carolinas. This division currently has a home at SECA sanctioned Friendship Speedway. In addition, this division has competed in select events at other tracks in the region as well. With a growing interest from several partnering tracks, SECA officials are pleased to welcome its newest division!

“We’ve been looking at the crate modified division for over a year”, stated SECA’s Timmy Mcabee. “Expanding SECA has always been of interest to us. However, Jason (Atkins) and I are committed growing the association the right way. 2015 allowed us to do a variety of things to prepare for 2016. We were able to take our crate late models to The Dirt Track @ Charlotte for the first time in association history, get the inaugural season of crate sportsman competition under our belts, and also plan the addition of the crate modified division for 2016. I’ve personally seen these cars compete on numerous occasions and I am excited about what the upcoming season holds for them and the rest of our divisions.”

The rulebook and championship point structure for the newly sanctioned crate modified division are currently being finalized. In addition to weekly sanctioned races at Friendship Speedway, teams can look for other tracks to come on board as well. SECA officials have already confirmed significant interest from Cherokee Speedway, Carolina Speedway, and East Lincoln Speedway.

A special Thank You goes to Friendship Speedway’s Mike Brown, FMS Technical Director Andy Johnson, our track promoters, and all of the teams that have helped shape this division and give it a very bright future. More details about all three SECA sanctioned divisions will be released over the coming weeks.
